Outdoor Events In Downtown Brooklyn

Enjoying live music and watching movies with friends are a few of our favorite ways to spend the summer days. This month, check out the great live concerts and outdoor movies at venues close to Hub.

An easy ride on the G train will bring you right to Prospect Park Bandshell, which has a great line up of summer concerts. Common kicks off the concert series on June 5th with a free performance (insane – I know). This Grammy-winner is not to be missed! Other June concerts include Los Lobos, The Decemberists, M. Ward, Vance Joy, Grizzy Bear, Aimee Mann & many, MANY more.

Movies Under the Stars is another beloved warm weather event in Brooklyn. Grab a blanket and snacks to enjoy a movie under the stars with your Hub neighbors. On June 22,  The Art of the Score is playing in Fort Greene Park, as part of Festival Fridays: Hip Hop Film Festival. On June 28th, you can be part of BAMcinemaFest Outdoor Screenings showing of Eve’s Bayou- one of the most distinctive films of the 1990s.

Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and Alamo Drafthouse have partnered to present the Outer Space Outdoors movies series at Albee Square. Every Thursday night this month you can catch a free space-themed movie. Everyone will enjoy these “out of this world” films, which kick off with a pre-show DJ set at 7. Viewers are encouraged to bring a blanket and settle in before the movie starts at 8 pm. The screening schedule is Close Encounter of the Third Kind (6/7) Men in Black (6/14) Space Jam (6/21) Gravity (6/28).

Brooklyn Bridge Park is exploding with events when the weather warms up. Glide along the water while kayaking with the Brooklyn Bridge Boathouse at Pier 2 floating dock on weekends and Thursdays in the early evening. On Fridays in June, come to Brooklyn Bridge Park for Brooklyn Americana Music Festival for intimate, unplugged performances. If you’re trying to keep up that summer bod, BBP is also a great place to work out. Their free classes include a Sunrise Yoga, Zumba, and Broadway Dance weekly offering.

Living in Downtown Brooklyn lets you live your summers to the fullest with these great movie nights, concerts and outdoor activities!
